On this sample itinerary we’ve combined some of the Yucatan’s best-known sites with a few of its lesser known wonders. Start with the awe-inspiring ruins of Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, before heading to Mérida, the vibrant capital of Yucatán. Stroll through its colonial streets, soak in its rich culture, and indulge in some of Mexico’s finest cuisine, and one of our favourite Mexican cities!

From Merida the road takes you to Campeche, a beautifully preserved UNESCO-listed city with colorful facades and a fascinating pirate history. After exploring the walled city venture deep into the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve, home to spectacular jungle-clad ruins and abundant wildlife, including howler monkeys and exotic birds.

Finally, unwind on the powdery white beaches of the Riviera Maya in Tulum, where you can explore seaside ruins, snorkel in crystal-clear cenotes, or take a boat to nearby islands. ITINERARY

Day 1 Cancun

Arrive in Cancún and transfer to your hotel for an overnight stay. Take it easy today—relax by the pool, enjoy the beach, or explore a bit of this lively coastal city depending on your arrival time.

Day 2 Cancun/Chichen-Itza

Cancún to Chichén Itzá (via Valladolid)
This morning, meet your guide who will assist with collecting your rental car. Begin your journey inland to Chichén Itzá (approx. 3 hrs). En route, consider a stop in Valladolid, a picturesque colonial town full of charm—wander its pastel-colored streets, visit a cenote, or grab a bite in the lively main square. Overnight near Chichén Itzá.

Day 3 Chichen-Itza

Rise early to beat the crowds and the heat as you explore the iconic Chichén Itzá, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Highlights include the Pyramid of Kukulkan, the Great Ball Court, and the Temple of the Warriors. Spend the rest of the day at leisure—relax at your hotel or visit a nearby cenote for a refreshing dip.

Day 4 Chichen-Itza/Merida

Depart for Mérida (approx. 2 hrs), the vibrant capital of Yucatán. After settling into your hotel, explore the city’s elegant architecture, bustling markets, and tree-lined plazas. Don’t miss a stroll along the Paseo de Montejo, Mérida’s grand boulevard lined with colonial mansions.

Day 5 Merida

Uxmal & the Puuc Route
Take a day trip to the spectacular Uxmal ruins (approx. 1.5 hrs), an extraordinary example of Puuc-style architecture. Marvel at the towering Pyramid of the Magician, the Nunnery Quadrangle, and intricate stone mosaics. Optionally, continue exploring other nearby Puuc sites such as Kabah or Labná. Return to Mérida for the evening.

Day 6 Merida/Campeche

Head south to Campeche (approx. 2.5 hrs), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Upon arrival, take a walk through its beautifully restored historic center—admire colorful colonial facades, walk along the old city walls, and enjoy fresh seafood along the waterfront.

Day 7 Campeche/Calakmul

Drive into the lush jungles of the Calakmul Biosphere Reserve (approx. 3 hrs). Settle into your eco-lodge, surrounded by tropical rainforest. Enjoy the peaceful setting and prepare for tomorrow’s adventure into the heart of ancient Maya civilization.

Day 8 Calakmul

Explore Calakmul
Spend the day discovering Calakmul, one of the largest and most remote Maya cities. Hidden deep in the jungle, this archaeological site offers a truly immersive experience. Climb its massive temples for panoramic views of the forest canopy. Optional: explore lesser-known ruins like Xpuhil, Becán, or Chicanná nearby.

Day 9 Calakmul/Tulum

Calakmul to Tulum (via Bacalar Lagoon)
Journey back toward the Caribbean coast as you drive to Tulum (approx. 4 hrs). En route, we highly recommend a stop at Laguna Bacalar, often called the “Lagoon of Seven Colors.” Take a swim, enjoy lunch with a view, or rent a kayak before continuing north.

Day 10 Tulum

Enjoy a full day at leisure in Tulum. Unwind on its white-sand beaches, swim in cenotes, or explore the Tulum ruins, perched dramatically above the turquoise sea—the only Maya city built on the coast. For a more adventurous day, consider a visit to nearby Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve.
