Peruvian cuisine has catapulted to worldwide fame in recent years. And here at Contours Travel, we couldn’t be happier to see Peru’s delicious recipes making their way around the world! From fresh ceviche to Andean superfoods, Peruvian influence can be found in unlikely places. But what better way to explore this diverse cuisine than straight from the source! Join us in Peru’s capital for our Lima Culinary Experience.

Did you know that we can thank ancient Peruvian civilizations for many today’s staple foods? Among the most important contributions were the domestication of potatoes and corn. And both of these still feature prominently in Peruvian dishes. In fact, Peru has more than 3,500 species of potato alone!

With the arrival of the Spanish, new animals and plants were introduced which further enriched Peruvian cuisine. But probably most important was the influx of Chinese and Japanese migrants. These immigrants brought new cooking techniques and flavours, which, over time, have evolved into uniquely Peruvian dishes.

We invite you to explore Peruvian cuisine in a hands-on and delicious way on our tailor made Lima Culinary Experience. You’ll visit local markets to see the incredible array of fresh produce. Roll up your sleeves and learn how to make your own ceviche! Explore the best food stalls of Miraflores by bike. And have plenty of opportunities to dine at Lima’s premier restaurants, that frequently feature on the “World’s Best” lists.

Day 1 Lima

Welcome to Lima. Transfer to your hotel in Miraflores or Barranco. Celebrate your first night in Lima with a fantastic tasting tour. Start with a Pisco Sour, enjoying views over the Pacific Ocean. Next, you’ll help prepare a classic ceviche dish. Continue to Huaca Pucllana, where you’ll enjoy a delicious dinner in front of one of the most important pre-Hispanic archaeological sites in Lima. Finish in Barranco for a traditional dessert.

Day 2 Lima

Visit one of Lima’s produce markets this morning to learn about the typical ingredients of Peruvian cuisine. Afterwards you’ll have a cooking demonstration with a local chef before tucking into a delicious traditional lunch.

Day 3 Lima

Continue your exploration of Peruvian gastronomy on a cycling tour of Miraflores. Visit some of the district’s most traditional cafes, markets and restaurants whilst sampling authentic dishes along the way.

Day 4 Lima

Day at leisure. Why not ask your consultant to make a reservation at one of Lima’s fantastic restaurants which frequently feature in the ‘World’s Best’ lists!

Day 5 Lima

Transfer to the airport for your onward flight or continue your culinary adventures in Cuzco.
