Day 1 Los Mochis/El Fuerte
Your Copper Canyon adventure begins as you land in Los Mochis. Our representative will greet you and escort you on a scenic 1.5-hour transfer to the colonial town of El Fuerte. As you traverse the fertile El Fuerte Valley, observe the picturesque landscape and charming local villages, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich agricultural heritage. Settle into your hotel in El Fuerte, a town steeped in history and legend.
Day 2 El Fuerte/Posada Barrancas
This morning, step aboard the legendary Chepe train for an unforgettable ride through the Copper Canyon’s dramatic terrain to Posada Barrancas.
The Chihuahua-Pacifico railroad, or Chepe, has been around since 1961, was privatised in 1998 and took almost 100 years to complete. Its line includes 37 bridges and 86 tunnels from the start in Los Mochis to the end in Chihuahua, and is an engineering masterpiece that people come from all over the world to ride. The train line runs through Septentrion Canyon, which overall, is a very small portion of the canyons system that covers over 25,000 square miles. Needless to say, one must get off the train line to really immerse oneself into the Copper Canyon, though this train ride is a nice taster of what you will see if you explore deeper into the canyon system.
Upon arrival in Posada Barrancas, you’ll be transferred to your hotel, where a delicious lunch awaits. The afternoon is yours to explore the canyon’s rim at your leisure, taking in panoramic vistas that stretch to the horizon.
Day 3 Posada Barrancas/Creel
Embark on a private tour with an expert historian guide, delving into the heart of the Divisadero area. Prepare for breathtaking overlooks that reveal the canyon’s grandeur. For those seeking adventure, optional activities like zip-lining, the ZipRider, or Via Ferrata await at the Adventure Park. Take a leisurely 2-kilometer walk along a paved path, savoring the tranquility and stunning views.
You’ll be given the option to do a two kilometre self-guided walk along a paved path on the rim of the canyon to enjoy the views and some quite time. You can then visit the market stalls if you want to do a bit of shopping for souvenirs. After your visit to the Divisadero area, you’ll be driven onto Creel and stop off for one last overlook at Oteros Canyon just outside of Divisadero. This tour is roughly 5-6 hours and will cover about 110kms.
Day 4 Creel
Today, immerse yourself in a comprehensive Copper Canyon tour, exploring the unique landscapes surrounding Creel. Discover the Valley of the Mushrooms, where whimsical rock formations create an otherworldly scene. Experience the serene beauty of Lake Arareko, and visit the historic San Ignacio Mission. Witness the cascading beauty of Cusarare Waterfall, and marvel at the depths of Basihuare Canyon. Of course, no tour is complete without experiencing the iconic Copper Canyon itself. Enjoy a delightful picnic lunch amidst this spectacular scenery, creating lasting memories.
Day 5 Creel/Chihuahua
This morning, journey from Creel to Chihuahua City, with an optional stop at the Mennonite Community of Cuauhtemoc. Explore their unique culture and heritage (museum entry not included). Upon arrival in Chihuahua City, settle into your hotel.
In the afternoon, embark on a guided city tour, uncovering the rich history of this vibrant city. Visit Pancho Villa’s house, Quinta Gameros, the Federal Building with Hidalgo’s Dungeon, and the majestic Cathedral, each a testament to Chihuahua’s storied past.
Day 6 Chihuahua
Transfer to the airport for your onward flight.
