The oldest metropolis of the New World, Mexico City is huge, hectic and heaving with humanity. DNA woven from the Aztecs, Conquistadors and Revolutionaries engender today’s proud Mexiqueños. Inexhaustibly like the sun, their beloved capital radiates with dramatic history, thriving culture, intense purpose and, most of all, lots of zesty street food.
From pre-Hispanic and colonial-era splendour to its contemporary edge, Mexico City offers a whole lifetime of exploration and discovery. Start at the Zócalo, the beating heart of this ancient city. Nearby, visit the Metropolitan Cathedral breathing solace into its devoted peoples. Next, stroll the cobblestoned, leafy streets of Coyoacán, the bohemian neighbourhood that defines modern Mexico’s artistic and intellectual identity. Learn about it at the bright-blue Frida Kahlo Museum and the intriguing Leon Trotsky House Museum. Later, parade down the beautified Paseo Reforma to the leafy sanctuary of Chapultepec Park. Then, wander through the corridors of time of the National Museum of Anthropology. Come to understand what a mighty feat it is to be a Mexican today. Finally, with enough insight, ascend the place where men become gods, Teotihuacán. It is an awe-inspiring testimonial to a stable civilisation despite the cultural penchant for brutality and sacrifice.
