Cathy and I would like to give you some feedback on our trip to South America recently. Firstly we enjoyed the trip very much and are still in awe of the spectacular and fascinating sights we experienced.
Foremost in our minds were the Amazons, Machu Picchu, and Iguazu Falls. The rich Inca history and all their fantastic achievements(even compared with modern technology), were simply incredible and quite remarkable. Of the countries we visited, we were very impressed with Peru where we felt Peruvians were very proud of their multicultural heritage and appeared to be working hard to improve their community and country. We thought we coped quite well to the high altitudes, thanks to good advice from our travel medical doctor before leaving Australia, diamox tablets and a lot of hydralytes and water. We were told by locals not to mix what we take to avoid altitude sickness, either take the coca or munya teas or take western medicine, but don't mix the two.
The local operator systems and procedures of picking us up at airports/hotels, means of transport, transfer staff were generally good, on time and comfortable. On the whole we felt safe during the whole trip, and there were no issues on security when walking on streets even at night. There was only one minor mishap during the whole trip, which was when the engine of our boat broke down en route to the Refugio Amazons. However, it really added a bit of excitement to our trip.
Thanks Rod for your help in organising our itinerary and ensuring our trip went smoothly.
