We have got around to writing a short summary of our trip. I hope it isn't too long, could have gone on and on!
We recently came back from six amazing weeks in South America, visiting - Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Argentina and Chile. Our three wow experiences were:-
First glimpse of Macchu Pichu in light drizzle and the mist low over the mountains, making the area very mystical.
Approaching La Paz by road we stopped at a lookout at 4,100 metres above sea level, and looked into this huge bowl of buildings and houses, forming La Paz at 3,600m. and the Valley of the Moon down at 3,000m.
The expanse and volume of water going over Iguassu Falls was awesome, and with the positioning of the walkways that enabled you to get very close to the water. If you want to treat yourself, stay at the Sheraton Hotel in the National Park on the Argentina side. We had a falls view room.
If you are looking for something different Contours can arrange with the local agent at Cusco for a visit to a farm in the Sacred Valley. We were given a special greeting, and then set off for the fields and helped sow potatoes. We had a delightful lunch, getting to taste guinea pig which is a speciality in Peru. We learnt about the different herbs they grow, and saw the ladies weaving. It is a very hard life and with our visit we hope it helped them in some small way.
Although it is more expensive we wished we had travelled on the train from Cusco to Puno, as it would have been a far more relexing trip.
We would certainly recommend for Contours Travel to organise your Independent trip. A big percentage of the time we had one on one with our guide and driver making it quite special.
