Tapati Rapa Nui, Easter Island

The Tapati Rapa Nui a cultural festival that takes place on Easter Island during the first two weeks of February each year. It consists of numerous dancing and singing competitions, traditional sporting events such as swimming, canoeing, horse racing, haka pei, and the island triathlon. It is a fabulous event that involves locals and visitors alike.

Vendimia, Argentina

The Mendoza grape harvest is the biggest vineyard and wine celebration in Latin America. Thousands of visitors arrive at Argentina’s Cuyo province each year to celebrate the end of the grape harvest with dance, song, and (of course) wine tastings. The celebration begins on the last Friday of February with the ‘blessing of the fruits’, where the Mendoza achibishop thanks God for the harvest.

Carnival, Brazil

Rio Carnival is a celebration of what Brazil is all about; a bold, hard working & passionate nation of a diverse people with a deep European history dancing in harmony to their rich African and Amerindian cultures. The Rio Samba Parade is a none stop exciting celebration with exotic samba music, thousands of great performers, and wonderful musicians. It takes place in the 1 kilometer long Sambadrome in front of 200,000 spectators, where 12 Samba schools parade and compete with each other.

Carnival, Colombia

Brazil is not the only Latin American country to host a memorable carnival in February. Barranquilla’s Carnival is one of Colombia’s most important folkloric celebrations, and one of the biggest carnivals in the world. The Carnival starts on the Saturday before the Ash Wednesday (14 February 2018) with the Battle of the Flowers, which is considered one of the main activities. Then, The Great Parade on Sunday and Monday is marked by an Orchestra Festival with Caribbean and Latin bands. Tuesday signals the end of the carnival, announced by the burial of Joselito Carnaval, who is mourned by everyone.
